How can you let someone else make the decisions and have a great, short trip? Shanda Stefanson gives you some tips on how to make the most of the time you have.  Not everyone can afford to take months off to take the trip of their dreams. Most of us have to be satisfied with a few weeks here and there to satiate our appetite for travel. Making sure you get as much as possible out of those short trips can be a challenge, but with a little preparation, you can help ensure that your trip is well worth the time, effort and money you’ve invested in it.Decide What You Want Before you even book your flight, it’s important to decide what kind of holiday you want. There’s nothing wrong with a few weeks of rest and relaxation and an attempt to break the world record for martini consumption. If that’s the kind of holiday you want, go for it. However, getting the most of this kind of holiday is a very different thing than if you want to tour the great cathedrals of France, for example. A successful holiday means different things to different people. Knowing what you want is the first step to planning a trip that will suit your needs. Plan, Plan, Plan People are very divided on the issue of whether the best trips are the ones where you have no plan at all or the ones where you make a plan and stick to it. Personally, I think a healthy blend of the two is best. That way, you leave room for spontaneous adventures, but still make sure you see all the things that made you choose to travel in the first place. For short trips, I believe that having an itinerary is a must. A flexible itinerary is best, but an itinerary nonetheless. Doing your research and having an idea of the best way to get around, what attractions are in the same areas, travel times and a basic to do list will save you a lot of hassle while you’re on the road and help ensure you don’t miss out on anything. Prioritize your list, so if it comes down to cutting some things out, you know where to start. |
