Fancy a place where monkeys chase you on a zip line through the jungle? Jenny Ferguson tells you why Costa Rica is a great vacation destination. Costa Rica is situated in Central America bordered by Nicaragua to the north and Panama to the south. With two coasts meeting the ocean there is plenty of water and the weather is temperate, tempting tourists from all over. Rainforests, volcanoes, lakes, rivers, beaches and plenty of other natural resources make Costa Rica a must-see travel destination. Maybe you should consider booking your next vacation to Central America’s jewel, Costa Rica.Adventure at Your Fingertips The first reason to head to Costa Rica on your next vacation is simple: in this small but jam-packed country, you can travel in any direction and run into an adventure. If you’re interested in surfing or white-water rafting, Costa Rica has many options. There are many tour companies that offer day trip (or longer if you fancy it) rafting excursions on the Pacuare and Reventazon rivers. Ranging from budget accommodations and lunches to gourmet meals at jungle lodges, the options are endless for any size billfold! Surfing is good on both coasts. Try Playa Hermosa on the Pacific coast and Puerto Viejo on the Caribbean for superb surf and a good time all-round! Costa Rica is a great place to take a drive. Hop in your car and explore the highways, towns and cities. During the rainy season, be sure to check the conditions of weather and the roads before you head out. Ticos (as Costa Ricans like to be called) are a friendly people and will help you when you’re lost or just looking for lunch. Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve A trip to Costa Rica is not complete without taking in Monteverde Cloud Forest. If you’re into nature, birding, hiking or want another dose of exhilarating adventure, head to the Cloud Forest. The forest is home to hundreds of species of birds, plants, mammals, insects, amphibians and reptiles. Many of them are only found here. Take a walk on the Sky Walk, a series of boardwalks built high up in the clouds. Or if you’re ready for a little wind in your hair, try the zip lines: harnessed and securely hooked to a line, you’ll glide through the forest. A friend of mine was chased by monkeys as she flew through the greenery! |
