Keeping active while travelling may be easier than you think with these tips. Shanda Stefanson gives you some tips on how to keep up your fitness regime. You’ve worked hard to look great in your new bikini for your summer trip, but once you get there, you find that all the cocktails and indulgences soon undo all your efforts. Being on holiday doesn’t have to mean you let yourself go. If that’s what you’re after, by all means, indulge. That’s what holidays are for, right? But for those of us who don’t want to give up our fitness routines or just don’t want to come home five pounds heavier than when we left, there are some options.Ask Around Whether you are staying in a 5 star hotel or a humble hostel, someone will be able to direct you to a place where you can work out. Most high-end hotels these days and even some low-end ones, have a fitness room on site. If not, they can probably help you find one that will let you work out on a day pass. In places where gyms aren’t popular, you can ask about running or walking trails nearby. Be sure to ask what would be appropriate attire for public exercise. Some more conservative countries wouldn’t appreciate the sight of you jogging in your short shorts and sports bra. It might even get you arrested. Carry Your Workout With You If your workout of choice is a good jump on a trampoline, it will be pretty much impossible to carry that around with you, but many things can be brought along in your suitcase or backpack. Running shoes and workout clothes don’t take up much space. Things like a yoga mat, skipping rope or exercise band are light and easy to carry. Load up your iPod with some yoga, aerobics or Tae Bo videos and you’ve created your own portable gym. While it may not be exactly what you’re used to, with a little modification and imagination, you can still get a great workout. |
