![]() No one knows for sure what causes Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. This makes it all the more difficult to diagnose, treat or prevent the disorder. But scientists have their theories. A viral infection is perhaps most often speculated to be the culprit. Infections like Epstein-Barr, some herpes viruses, Candida and Lyme disease among many others are most commonly named as triggers. However, head injuries, surgery, traumas or what a recent study calls an abnormality in an antiviral lymphocyte enzyme system have each been suspected as the main cause of CFS’s appearance in a previously healthy individual. __________________________ coping with CFS It is true that there is no cure for CFS. It is also true, though, that you don’t have to let it ruin your life. No one treatment will ease all symptoms, but there are medications that can help with each individual issue. Sleeping pills can put an end to insomnia or interrupted sleep, while anti-inflammatory drugs and painkillers help with sore muscles and joints as well as headaches. Moderate exercise can help build much needed stamina and psychotherapy is a great way to help alleviate stress that might otherwise trigger or worsen symptoms. Message therapy, physiotherapy and acupuncture have been successful drug-free treatments and herbal products and supplements have also been known to help alleviate some of the troubling symptoms, but be sure to speak to a doctor before using supplements and herbs to treat CFS as some may do more harm than good. CFS may be a lifelong battle or it may ease up and disappear on its own, but you do have options to overcome the worst of it.
