Recession-Proof Date Nights

No cash for date night?  Don’t let that stop you.  Stephanie Bonotto has some inexpensive ideas for spending time together.
If you’re like just about everyone else in the world, you’re likely adjusting your lifestyle to the recent economic changes, but if you find that your shift was so dramatic that you and your spouse never go anywhere except your local drive-thru and video rental store, then you’ll be surprised at the many inexpensive date nights you’ve probably never even considered.

Rediscover Each Other

They say that nine months after any sort of lengthy power outage is the busiest time for maternity wards.  If you are in a financial pinch, what better activity is there than sex?  It’s free (basically) and essential for couples that want to maintain their connection.  A recession is a very stressful time and intimacy with your partner is a cost-effective way to reduce some of that stress.  Plus, a satisfied partner is a happy partner, and you will be better able to work out any financial issues without the added aggravation of sexual frustration.

Don’t settle for your regular routine.  Spice it up with a new move or two and you will see the difference in your partner’s enthusiasm.  While it is not sexy to schedule your rendezvous, you may want to add a playful spin on them such as each of you taking turns with trying something different.  You could even suggest a silly game like strip poker.  With only the two of you, it won’t take very long for one of you to lose and then you can take it from there.

Cook Together

Those who enjoy cooking have been holding out on a secret:  cooking together can be a very sensual experience.  Forget about the romance of an intimate, candle-lit dinner at an expensive restaurant and instead buy the ingredients you need to make your favourite meal at home.  Preparing your food and tasting it at various stages throughout the cooking process is fun and interactive.  There is no need to forgo the candle-lit part either.  Candles are inexpensive, so you can create that same romantic atmosphere right in your own home.  Save the restaurant dates for special occasions only and you will be surprised at the amount of money you used to spend and, more importantly, that you now save.  You will feel good about saving the money and about the intimate time you spend together with no one else around.
