Regardless of weight or size there is no denying that it’s important to stick to a healthy diet. Lisa Xing gives you the essential foods that are sure to improve your overall health.

It’s all right to indulge on gluttonous food—as long as it’s in moderation and as long as it’s few and far between. Believe it or not one of the key concepts to maintaining a healthy body weight is to allow yourself a few treats every now and then. This way you don’t feel like you’re suppressing your appetite. If that happens you may just end up eating more all at once. If you allow yourself some chips or a chocolate bar once every couple of weeks it could just help you stay on track with eating healthy the rest of the time. Here are some foods for those times.

Fruits and Veg
You can never, ever go wrong with loading up on fruits and vegetables in your daily diet. Fruits are chock-full of vitamin C and other essential nutrients. The citrus fruits are especially abundant—oranges, lemons, grapefruit. Broccoli is an amazing veggie. It is proven to prevent cancer and other disease. Like cranberries, it is a powerful antioxidant and can be cooked in many different ways. Tomatoes are also an essential good fruit. They are cancer-fighting and delicious.

Just remember that boiling your veggies can drain a lot of nutrients from them. Why not consider switching up your menu and go for salads a few times a week? This way, it will ensure you are getting as much nutrition as possible from these vegetables. They also go great as garnish on meat dishes. There are many sneaky ways of getting your veggies in without eating a dish full. Add some to a roast or put chicken into your salad.

Dairy
Daily is delicious. And also very healthy. Milk by-products are full of calcium and protein. Milk goes great with any type of carb product, especially breads and cereals. Cheese is another delicious option. It can also be used to enhance the flavour of veggies and breads. Yogurt makes a delicious and very healthy snack. Why not forgo the vending machine and pop one of these out instead? Your body will thank you for it.
